THOMAS HOOD was born on May 23, 1789, and died May 3, 1845. His father was a man of considerable ability, having written two successful novels. He was also a bookseller, of the firm of Vernor & Hood. The teacher of Thomas Hood was a person who appreciated the boy's ability, and made him feel it impossible not to take an interest in his studies.
