Gary Dodd was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He began writing his form of poetry in 1995, when a brief encounter at a wedding inspired him to write his first piece of verse, titled "As strangers go friends". In 2003, Gary self-published his first book titled "A nod and a smile" while living overseas in the United Arab Emirates.
