Gary Dodd was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He began writing his form of poetry in 1995, when a brief encounter at a wedding inspired him to write his first piece of verse, titled "As strangers go friends". In 2003, Gary self-published his first book titled "A nod and a smile" while living overseas in the United Arab Emirates. In 2008, he published four more books titled: "The Little Book of Values", "Poems of Love for You", "My life Your life Our lives", and "Now for the too hard basket". Gary has five more books in final draft, including a revised edition of his first book. Gary plans to publish at least one book each year for the next ten years, including Gary’s current project of five-volume set known as The Definitive Collection. Gary’s poems have been used at business meetings, farewells, birthdays, funerals, weddings, and anniversaries.
