Words, words that can hurt
words of wisdom, of healing,
of guidance, to live our lives
but The Word, now that is the point
the reason for these words,
the word made flesh, living amongst us
to teach ultimate, basic, all-inclusive lessons
words that heal, that bind, that join us
in love, in communion, in covenant
Restoring the breach we create, in our folly
our willfulness, our stubborn refusal
to get the message, in the Word;
requiring His birth, His ministry,
our continuing work, His sacrifice
Thank you God, for His resurrection
the balm, the cement, the living tissue
joining us with you again
in spirit, as what matters is the spirit,
not the ephemeral, the fleeting, the beating heart
It is the soul, our bond with the holy
that is the point after all,
that is our connection
to eternity
