Stopping a Train Wreck, in Progress by Raymond A. Foss
Some days, some of themare like stopping a train wreck,
already in progress, the sequence of events
 long since set in motion
 inexorably leading to the crash
 the carnage, the debris field
 the disruption of the lives
 the lives of all involved
The task is to find a way, even at the last moment
even as the brakes are screeching, screaming
the sparks flying and the faces turned to see
to find a way to jump the tracks,
to move the switch, to steer the speeding train
away from the brink of disaster
 and find another track
