Closing the chapter of ministry,
of the training of the disciples
he gave them the gift
of himself, in the breaking of the bread
in the sharing of the wine
submitting to the Father’s will
in the Garden of Gethsemane
and turning himself over
to the betrayer and those
who would judge him
Disciples too, fulfilled the scripture
in scattering to the wind
when the shepherd was caught
sheep without the safety
of the rod, the staff
undone by their fear
a night like no other
in the history of the world
The savior before the tribunal
who could not see
