After the shutter’s last closing
when few remained, under the maple’s boughs
he was, instinctively, lovingly
attending to her train;
making her way on the grass, easier a bit
lovingly, attentively caring for her
without a word of prompting
probably noticed by no other,
maybe not even his bride
across the lawn on this bright fall afternoon
