In these words, these parting words,
these empowering words of the savior
the mantle of the father,
that which he gave to the son
at the moment of his baptism,
rising from the Jordan,
the dove falling upon him,
the carpenter’s son
commissioned in the river,
the ancient scrolls of the prophets
fulfilled in that instance
But the words of Christ,
in sending forth his children
giving them, giving us, the power he received
the strength to continue his ministry
to boldly bring his message, his love
the saving grace, by grace alone
the gift of the loving father
in the breath of the spirit
given to us in that moment
when he sent us to the ends of the earth
when he commissioned us
to be his messengers
his light, sent into the world
