A Dying Bloom by Raymond A. Foss
Nestled, sheltered
against the warm brick
the foundation of the church
the dying bloom of the now lavender crocus
Unfurled petals, like
translucent rice paper tissue
bent and splayed open
a crescendo before the dying
the orange within
dying with grace
in the bright mid-morning light

April 9, 2009
Maundy Thursday
outside the Suncook United Methodist Church
Suncook, NH
