A question, pregnant on our lips
the extent of the devastation
the cost of the earthquake
in that impoverished land

A disaster of poverty
the poor construction
buildings collapsing,
crumbling, unlike
in a wealthier land

A season of anguish
recovery slowed to a crawl
a disaster of poverty
may the world answer their cries, their call
