Creatures of Fire by Raymond A. Foss

Standing in the throne room
the court of the creator
a trembling Isaiah
marveling at the sights

Creatures of fire
six-winged, amazing
proclaiming his glory
praising our master
eternal, always

Utterly mindful
quaking in his humanity
I can only imagine
the fear Isaiah felt

His lips seared
burned by the ember
empowered to speak
when he is called by the king

Offering himself, a servant
saying, “Here I am. Send me!”
to proclaim to the people
the judgment of the creator
the holy word of God.
