The prayerful things, fasting
what we give up for Lent
different than the New Year’s resolutions
lying in the dust, abandoned

Walking differently, thinking about our savior
choosing to change our lives
as a reminder of his sacrifice
Giving up a bit of our selfishness
spending more time with the Lord

Hoping in these talismans
these memory reminders
these bits of string tied around our fingers
that we would be forever changed
by the story of God’s love, his grace
and the sacrifice of our savior
