Darkness at Noon by Raymond A. Foss

Darkness fell on the land
as the savior hung on the cross
quiet on Golgotha
until Christ cried out after three
and the curtain was ripped in two

All that afternoon
darkness beginning at noon
as his life slipped away
all of heaven cried out
darkness filling the sky

When he breathed his last
crying out to God
the ground shook
and the stones moved
none standing as before
just as he had foretold
