Whose Banner Are We Carrying by Raymond A. Foss

As we look at human history
in every era, every nation
each one claiming Christ
as we went into battle

Chaplains on the front line
healing broken souls
yet also telling each
that God was one our side

How the Lord must sorrow
when he looks down from above
that so much killing
has been done claiming his name

May 3, 2010
inspired by the readings at
1st meeting of a poetry group,
at the Suncook Senior Center
Allenstown, NH
including the poem,
“Barbara Frietchie,” a poem from the Civil War era
by the American poet John Greenleaf Whittier
and the video played by the director
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pfBUUZNbFM&feature=player_embedded
by third graders of Tussing Elementary School,
Colonial Heights, Virginia
