Friends with Our Brother by Raymond A. Foss

Changing the nature of the connection
people with the living God
a distance removed
intimacy, as a brother, a friend
his words just before
of the vine and the branches
that we are physically
connected with God
what a joy, what a victory

Giving his life for us
that we may walk with God
going to the cross
to wash away our sin
Leading where we cannot go
preparing a place for us
redemption through
the blood of the lamb
rising to heaven with him

not servants, no longer slaves
our prayer, before the sermon
changing the words,
from “speak Lord, your servants are listening”
to “your friends are listening”
A different way of thinking,
of our relationship with God
friends, through the one who came to earth
God in the flesh, walking as we do
with daily struggles, the way of life
made companions with the creator
through the servant king
giving his all,
in the journey to the cross
so that we may be friends of life
not slaves to death
