Reading Job by Raymond A. Foss

The story of so many
who try to be faithful
yet staring at calamity
capricious and cruel
in reading Job
seeing us, ourselves
our struggles in this life

Painfully, eager for answers
for mysteries we cannot know
the whys and hows of this world
beyond our capacity or reason
wanting the questions to matter
to speak directly to God; but, unlike Job,
trying to be humble
walking more softly before God
