Shanequaly by Raymond A. Foss

We laughed easily
playing in the pool
going round and round
making the whirlpool

Somehow we came to
a discussion of people
that they are not things
or objects, but rather they are nouns

Joking further
that if we talked about Shanequa
that maybe she was a verb
a blur of motion

Shyanne giggling,
raising the standard
pushing us more
that her sister was an adverb

Sharing together
what it would be to move shanequaly
running and screaming
all through the house
(or anywhere else)

June 20, 2010
written with Shyanne and Shanequa
out by our pool
June 20, 2010
Father’s Day
three poems for Erica, Shyanne, and Shanequa
as an adjective, verb, and adverb
