Flawed, in Our Selfishness by Raymond A. Foss

Something of liberation theology
in the words of Christ
the upside down language
in the Sermon on the Mount

Our people, our nation
maybe too complacent
needing to change
back to your truth
losing our focus
listening to the winds
sinking under the waves

Flawed in our selfishness
listening to the world
needing to live church
to go out in his name
to be that beacon
a light to the nations
reclaiming the hope
in our declaration
in how we relate to the world

The verb of church calling
us up out of our pews
shouting in the wilderness
railing against all injustice
bending down into the ditch
helping our neighbors in need
Living as the first church
believers leaning on each other
not the brick and mortal
but living in community

“This Sunday my sermon is titled “Pursuing More Than Happiness,”
and it is based on Matthew 5:1-13. If you have a few minutes to read
this passage of scripture prior to attending the service, you might get
a little more out of the sermon. In this sermon, I want to challenge us all
to live with greater intentionality and to find deeper levels of meaning
for our lives. Instant gratification can be the enemy of faithful living.
Intentionality is the path to blessedness.”
