After I was finished
mowing my lawn
noting the sticker
affixed to the engine

Wishing our whole nation
a national standard
the plant more in our collective thoughts
protecting all our people

Not for sale in California
so the sign read
smelling the smoke of many chimneys
oblivious to the consequences
of our actions on future generations
