Jane Taylor (September 23, 1783−April 13, 1824), was an English poet. She wrote the words for the song Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star in 1806 at age 23.
Jane Taylor lived in Colchester, England. She is remembered as a poet, hymn writer and children's author and, along with her older sister Ann, was responsible for writing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (1806). Prior to this they published the collection Original Poems for Infant Minds in 1804. Hymns for Infant Minds followed in 1808. Their work contained a gentle piety and often provided warnings about behaviour to their young readers.
Jane Taylor died from cancer.
It is speculated that the character of Jane Taylor (Kipleigh Brown) in Star Trek: Enterprise, who suffered a tragic death at a young age in space, was named for this poet.
